Should Georgia lawmakers pass a bill that bans texting while driving for drivers of all ages?

Two bills have been introduced in Georgia.  One hits a driver with a $50 to $100 fine if they text, read a text, or send a text while driving.  The second bill calls for a fine of $300.

YAY,I am glad that they are trying to do something about this problem.  Now the only problem that I foresee, How is it going to be enforced?

I hope the Bill's get passed.  But, I agree w/ JeffersonAngel~How are they going to enforce it?  I guess if an officer sees someone looking down while driving or looking at their phone while driving that they will assume they are texting?  I don't even have the capability of texting on my phone.  I don't want it.  If I can't call or email the person to say what I need to say, then I don't need to say it.  (And it saves me $! :-)  )

I am glad this is FINALLY coming up again, Hopefully it passes this time. The bill that states you can't use a cell while driving either disappeared or I lost track of it. In Carroll county they will ticket you quick for using a cell or text while driving, they call it reckless driving also. And I think it is. I have seen too many people running off of the road or swirving while texting and talking and it is sad that you can't depend on your driving because of all of the careless and irresponsible people who do these things while they drive are the ones you have to look out for and avoid. Stay Safe everyone! And let's all pray this billl passes for the safety of our families and friends and other innocent citizens!

I think it will be a good idea to ban texting. I used to do it once in a while but after I watched Oprah show on Monday I decided its not worth the risk.

I don't think bans are the way to keep people safe.  I think education on the dangers is much more effective.  I think instead "they" should run ads showing graphic images of accidents that were caused by texting.  It has to be emotional, it has to be graphic.  The ads that simply say "Don't drink and drive or you could lose your license" aren't very effective are they?

When I was in HS a classmate was killed in an accident caused by him drinking and driving.  His family (with the school's approval) put his wrecked car on the lawn of the school.  That was very emotional for the students- and as a consequence- very effective.

It COULD make drivers more alert of their driving.. but then we can't MAKE/Ban people from being on a cell while driving.. i do see the safe point of it though.. but we might as well say NO one in the cars can be on a cell phone.. people are going to do what they want doesn't matter what the fine is.. what is the gov. going to do ? put cameras in our cars and it alerts for a ticket..LoL i mean really.. if that's the case there's  a lot they should ban people from..wink!...the gov. is so trying to OWN everything we do now.. crazy

Totally agree with you Trestonsmom.  They'd have to ban the radio, the mirrors, KIDS in the car!  Where does it end?

Well, it seems like there NEEDS to be a law passed b/c people just aren't intelligent enough on their own merit not to do this!!!

Texting while driving is FOUR TIMES more deadly than drunk driving.  FOUR TIMES!!!  Is that text message really so important that you have to read/answer it while driving?  Is it worth the life of another person?

Drivers, especially mothers, have enough distractions as it is - texting while driving is just plain old stupid.  PUT DOWN THE PHONE AND JUST DRIVE!!!

So, Honk if you love Jesus - text while driving if you want to meet him!!
